ITTIHAD UNIVERSITY (IU)
was established to contribute to the national development of the United Arab
Emirates by developing its students’ responsible personalities. This will
enable them to make moral and rational decisions by themselves and become
personally accountable for their performances. The University is keen to
offer quality education by broadening and expanding their educational base,
which combines both the Arabic-Islamic values and the contemporary
international perspective in its humanitarian and scientific aspects. It
believes that students need to have sound theoretical and practical
knowledge to compete in changing high-tech global economies.
Ittihad
University adopts the credit-hour system which has been adopted to suit the
needs and values of the Arabic and Islamic society and which is capable of
meeting the requirements of the labor market in the UAE particularly and in
the Arab region in general.
IU considers independent learning as a target
and a skill to be achieved through direct access to diverse information
sources such as references, journals and magazines that have been made
available in the University library and other sources such as the electronic
library providing access to information technology sources through the
Internet.
The University is keen on maintaining a
positive academic relationship between students and faculty members through
striking a balance between academic supervision on the one hand, and the
students’ self-reliance in choosing their program of study as well as
relevant courses, on the other hand. In order to foster this relationship,
students are linked to the University Intranet, which is connected with the
Internet. This makes it possible for them to communicate with instructors
and to keep abreast with the latest news and developments related to a
particular course.
The University also seeks to develop the
students’ personalities so as to make them positive and active in a modern
society and to become leaders in the practical sphere of life. This can be
achieved by providing them with a broad scientific background and through
specific and specialized programs and activities.
IU has agreements with a number of Arab and
international universities with the aim of exchanging information and
expertise. These links also help facilitate the transfer of students from
one university to another and offer opportunities for IU graduates to pursue
their graduate study abroad.
